We investigated the history of this house first as part of planning the reconnection of two separated flats on the street front, as the neighbourhood belongs to the protected cityscape of Terézváros. In the next stage we also planned the refurbishment of the roofing and the hanging corridors, and found more interesting details about this early Ödön Lechner work.
The property is mentioned in a 1924 semi-official list of protected buildings, however the facade of today differs significantly from the ornamented, sgraffitoed original. Alterations of the 50's, then a renovation in 1965 cleared off several authentic elements, including the arched window openings of street level shops, now covered with artificial stone footings and modern glass panels. As the research revealed, the old structure still can be found behind the new shopfronts. Along with the entire facade, the restoration of these windows would be adviseable in the future.
